The Absolute Reference Timekeeper

SMSL G1 Reference 10MHz Master Clock Generator

Banish digital glare and reconstruct your soundstage. Driven by a communication-grade SC-cut OCXO, calibrated to ±3ppb accuracy, and powered by high-capacity farad supercapacitors.

Six Core Pillars of Clock Precision

SC-Cut 10MHz OCXO

Employs a premium communication-grade SC-cut crystal oscillator for extremely low phase noise.

±3ppb Frequency Accuracy

Individually calibrated via factory software to maintain a reference accuracy of less than 3 ppb.

Super Farad Power

Powered by super farad capacitors to isolate the oscillator from power grid fluctuations.

Noratel Transformer

Features a premium Noratel toroidal transformer with extremely low magnetic leakage.

4x 10MHz Outputs

Provides 4 isolated BNC outputs supporting both 50-ohm and 75-ohm impedance options.

CNC Unit-Body Case

Milled from a solid aluminum block via CNC, shielding the signal path from electromagnetic noise.

The Absolute Ground Truth: Communication-Grade SC-Cut OCXO

Re-discover the physical space and depth in your digital recordings. The SMSL G1 Master Clock Generator features an ultra-low phase noise SC-cut 10MHz Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OCXO). Operating within an isolated dual-constant temperature chamber, this high-precision timepiece prevents thermal frequency drifts, maintaining a reference accuracy of less than 3 ppb. By aligning your DAC and transport to the same timing signal, the G1 minimizes digital jitter to deliver a black, noise-free background.

Farad Supercapacitors & Linear Power Isolation

Electrical purity determines timing precision. The G1 utilizes a super farad capacitor power module to drive its internal crystal oscillator, creating an ultra-fast electrical reservoir that mimics battery operation. Backed by a Noratel toroidal transformer with extremely low magnetic leakage, multiple linear regulators, and a dedicated EMI mains power filter, the G1 shields the clock synthesis circuits from AC grid ripple and noise.

Flexible Dual Power Paths & Structural CNC Shielding

Housed in a solid unit-body CNC-machined aluminum chassis, the G1 provides passive damping against mechanical micro-vibrations. For power routing flexibility, it supports both internal AC mains power (100V-240V) or an external low-noise DC linear power supply (9V-15V). Custom gold-plated BNC connectors output clean 3.3Vp-p square wave signals, allowing you to synchronize up to four independent digital sources simultaneously.

Operational Phase & Impedance Control

A master clock is a precision instrument. The SMSL G1 features distinct calibration, impedance matching, and power monitoring states to preserve timing integrity:

⏱️ 10-Minute Thermal Equalization OVEN HEATING

Upon power-on, the internal heating oven stabilizes the crystal frequency within approximately 2 minutes. For absolute precision and thermal balance of ±3 ppb, we recommend allowing a 10-minute warm-up period before critical listening.

🔗 BNC Impedance Matching (50Ω / 75Ω) ZERO SIGNAL REFLECTION

To prevent signal reflections that distort timing waves, match the G1's output impedance (50Ω or 75Ω) directly to the input impedance of your receiving DAC or CD transport using premium matched BNC coaxial cables.

⚡ Dual Isolated Power Paths AC / DC SEPARATE

Supports standard AC power (Blue LED indicator) or dedicated ultra-low-noise DC linear power supplies (Red LED indicator). *Do not connect both AC power and DC power inputs simultaneously to prevent ground loops.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of a Master Clock Generator in digital audio? +

Every digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and CD transport relies on an internal clock to time the processing of digital audio samples. When these devices use separate, unaligned clocks, minute timing errors (jitter) occur, causing phase distortion and flattening the soundstage. Synchronizing all devices to a single, ultra-precise master clock like the G1 eliminates these phase errors, restoring natural depth, separation, and micro-details.

Why does the G1 require a 10-minute warm-up period? +

The G1 utilizes a high-precision Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OCXO). For the SC-cut crystal to reach its absolute calibrated frequency accuracy of less than 3 ppb, it must operate within a strict, constant internal temperature. The internal oven stabilizes the crystal in about 2 minutes, but it requires roughly 10 minutes to establish full, steady-state thermal equilibrium.

Can I connect both AC and DC power inputs simultaneously? +

No, definitely not. Connecting both AC mains power and a DC linear power supply at the same time can cause ground loops, electrical noise, or potential damage to the internal power regulation circuits. Please connect only one power source at any given time.

How do I choose between 50Ω and 75Ω BNC outputs? +

Check the specifications or user manual of the receiving DAC or CD player to determine if its external clock input port is rated for 50-ohm or 75-ohm impedance. Use premium BNC coaxial cables rated for that same impedance, and connect them to the matched output of the G1 to prevent digital signal reflection.

How do the super farad capacitors improve the clock's stability? +

Supercapacitors provide an ultra-high electrical storage capacity. Unlike standard filtering capacitors, super farad capacitors act like an instantaneous high-current battery reservoir. They filter out AC ripple and high-frequency power grid fluctuations, supplying the crystal oscillator with pure, uninterrupted DC voltage to keep clock phase noise to a minimum.
